Why I Gift an Engagement Session to All My Wedding Clients (and How to Make the Most of Yours!)
One of my favorite things to include for every couple who books me for their wedding is a complimentary engagement session. It’s not just about getting pretty photos (though you definitely will)—it’s about connection, comfort, and making sure you feel completely at ease when your big day arrives.
Here’s why I do it, and what you can do to make the most of it.
⸻
Why I Include an Engagement Session as a Gift
I genuinely love getting to know my couples—not just as clients, but as real people. This session gives us a chance to hang out, laugh, talk, and get comfortable with each other before your wedding day. You’ll get used to being in front of my camera, and I’ll get to learn what makes you both shine—how you interact, what angles flatter you best, and how to capture your love in the most natural way.
By the time your wedding day rolls around, I won’t feel like a stranger with a camera—I’ll feel like a friend who just happens to be documenting one of the best days of your life. And that comfort shows in your photos every single time.
⸻
Tell Me Your Vision—We’ll Make It Happen
Engagement sessions are all about you, so I always encourage my couples to share any ideas, themes, or Pinterest inspiration they’ve been eyeing. Want something playful? Dramatic? Editorial? Casual and cozy? I’ve got you.
Whether you’re dreaming of wide-open mountain views or a sleek downtown rooftop, I’ll help find the perfect spot. If you love to hike and want a mountain overlook moment, I’m down. If you’d rather keep it easy with a no-hike, local park, or city vibe—great! And if you’re not feeling nature at all (like Iliana and Jack, who wanted a fully urban session because they were having a nature-filled wedding later), we’ll plan something totally different to match your style.
No two couples are the same—and your engagement session shouldn’t be either.
⸻
What to Wear (and What Not to Stress About)
My go-to advice? Keep it simple. Soft, solid colors or minimal patterns usually work best, especially if they move a little and catch the light. Think flowy dresses, relaxed button-downs, or anything you feel confident and comfortable in.
That said, if you have something more themed, cultural, or totally out-of-the-box in mind—bring it on. This session is yours. But in general, simpler clothing allows the focus to stay on your connection with each other—not on the outfit.
⸻
The Bottom Line
This session isn’t just “extra”—it’s essential. It’s a chance to ease any nerves, get gorgeous photos of just the two of you, and build trust with the person who will be by your side (and behind the camera) all wedding day long.
So bring your ideas, your love, your laughs, and your favorite person—I’ll handle the rest.
Let’s make some magic.
With Love,
Teagan
